Let’s just do this thing
I’m an ambitious procrastinator.
My brain is constantly hounding me to make, try, do, achieve, learn, grow, improve, and start. It’s the last part that I’m particularly bad at, however, I DO eventually get around to it - take this very moment for example.
Six months ago, something snapped in my brain and I got over my fear of being perceived online. I started making short videos centered around physical media and the huge collection of art books, vinyl, zines, and video games that my partner and I have collected over the years. A few months before six months ago, I started a new job at one of my dream organizations and realized I didn’t have as much time as I once did to get to the studio to tuft after work. I was fine with giving my new role my entire being and “taking a step down” from making art while I learned the ropes of this new org, but it was still important to me to dive into some kind of creative outlet that didn’t feel like work after work.
That’s when I got inspired to make “show and tell” style videos, finding joy in sharing work made by other creative people - illustrators, zine makers, comic creators, graphic novelists, game developers, indie publishers, indie labels, and designers. Making these videos gave me an exciting new inspired outlet that didn’t suck too much energy out of me, helped me meet new people around the world with shared interests, and most importantly shined a light on incredible artists, publishers, and brands that I feel deserve a bigger spotlight.
In an era where everything is digital, streamed, or forgotten about in three scrolls, I want to help others discover the beauty in the tangible.
Why I’m launching this
There are so many incredible books, music artists, video games, films, publishers, brands, and artists that I want to share with the world, but it’s hard to do it all in a 20-second or less, short-form video. Quite frankly, these works deserve MORE than a 20-second spotlight! That’s where this Substack comes in. This is a dedicated space for me to dump my interests, introduce you to new things, share tips and DIY projects, and put you onto new music, movies, games, artists and books. Growing up (and still today) I thought my older sister was the coolest person in the entire world. They introduced me to so many amazing things that helped shape who I am today, and I’m eternally grateful for that. That’s who I want to be here - that cool online sibling-type figure introducing you to neat things.
When you’ll hear from me
Expect posts every other week, from listicles to curated playlists to neat media you should check out. While my Substack is currently free and open to anyone, with enough interest, I plan to offer exclusive paid content in the future like monthly playlists, videos, podcasts, tutorials, and physical zines. If you’ve read this far, thank you, and I’m excited to grow & connect here.
